Per the 2020 census, the population was 30,176. Mundelein is one of several municipalities located on the North Shore of the Chicago metropolitan area.

Mundelein is mainly residential but has some industry, including telecommunications and the manufacture of medical supplies, packaging, and metal fasteners.
